Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Planestate Software collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Planestate Software’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Planestate Software’s visitors use its website. From time to time, Planestate Software may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website and software.

Planestate Software also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on plane9.com. Planestate Software only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.

Plane9 software

The plane9 software periodically check if any new version has been released. No information other than your current version number is sent when doing this.

Plane9 also periodically sends anonymous usage information to help me improve the program. Nothing is sent that can personally identify you or your machine. The data that is sent over is

  • A random installid that identifies your installation but not you or your machine
  • The type of graphics card you have
  • How many times, how long and how fast your machine runs the different scenes/editor/config/screensaver
  • How many monitors there are and the size of your desktop
  • How much memory your machine has Both or any one of these checks can be disabled at any time the configuration program

The information is aggregated and presented publicly for others to see and use at the Plane9 statistics page page

If the Plane9 software encounters a error a crash report will be generated that you can optionally allow to be sent to our servers to help improve the software. You will have the option to examine all information that would be sent before hand. The report contains the following information

  • Crash description XML file (crashrpt.xml) containing the basic information about the crash (Software name and version, resource usage parameters, your Windows version, your country and language). You may be asked to enter your e-mail address and short problem description. This information is also included into the crash description XML file.
  • Crash minidump file (crashdump.dmp) which contains technical information about exception in the Software (processor information, operating system version, process and thread information, stack traces for each thread, the list of loaded modules).
  • Screenshot images of all the main windows of the software.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to Planestate Software’s websites choose to interact with Planestate Software in ways that require Planestate Software to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Planestate Software gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for a account at plane9.com to provide a username and email address. In each case, Planestate Software collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with Planestate Software. Planestate Software does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Aggregated Statistics

Planestate Software may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. Planestate Software may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, Planestate Software does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

Planestate Software discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that need to know that information in order to process it on Planestate Software’s behalf or to provide services available at Planestate Software’s websites, and that have agreed not to disclose it to others.
