Hi, I found your site after abunch of googling and it seems you know more about the pronto protocol then most so here is my question.

I have obtained a RFX9600, I do not have the remote. It was my intention to use it to send IR and serial from my computer automation system (like homeseer but diy). I now realize that Philips did not intend this to be used without the remote (bah, humbug) but I figured it would still work with the simulator. I can not get it to do anything, I have configured it, it does get discovered in prontoedit, but when I set up a button to talk to it nothing happens in the simulator.

It looks to me the IR is bounced through the remote when using the simulator, is that the case for relays and serial too? Can you or anyone confirm or deny if the extender can be triggered via the simulator without having the remote?

Was hoping to see it work so I could sniff out the network commands, now it looks like a door-stop.

Thankx for any help that can be provided,
Jmayes

Hello Jmayes

The simulator was never intended to be used in that way even though I have it on my 'would be nice' list. Since then I could control my equipment using homeseer.
The problem is that the protocol is fairly complex so if I where to do add such a feature the simulator would then act as a resender instead.
Ie it wouldn't actually build the commands from scratch instead it would resend what has gone though it before (with various check and so forth adjusted) so you would still need the actual remote.
Building fully functional commands from scratch in Prontos new IR format is a lot of work and reverse engineer it without the actually remote would be very hard I'm afraid.

But if you decide to go and by the remote all I can say is that it's seriously one, if not the, best product I have bought so you will at least not be disappointed.
